Lekke Deals shows the deals from local businesses in one town. This notice explains what information we hold, why, who else handles it, and what your rights are.
Who we are
Lekke Deals is responsible for the information on lekkedeals.co.za. One address for every privacy question, request or complaint: hallo@lekkedeals.co.za.
Browsing needs no account
You can look at the deals without an account. To keep or skip deals, you sign in with your email address or with Google.
Signing in with Google
If you sign in with Google, Google shares your name, email address and profile picture with us. We use your email address to create your account and recognise you when you come back. We don’t use your name or picture for anything else.
We ask for no other access to your Google account. We can’t read your email, contacts, calendar or files. We don’t sell this information, and we share it with no one beyond the service providers listed below.
You can sign in with an emailed code instead. Google is a convenience, never a requirement.
What we hold
- Your account: your email address, plus your name and picture if you sign in with Google.
- Your answers: language, age group, gender and the kinds of deals you want to see. All of these are optional; skip any question and you still see everything. Signed in, we keep them with your account; otherwise they stay on your phone. You can change them under Settings.
- Your lists: the deals you kept or skipped, if you’re signed in.
- Who saw a deal: a random number for your phone, stored salted and hashed, so each phone counts once per deal. If you’re signed in, also a hashed reference to your account, with your age group and gender. After 60 days we remove the number and the reference.
- Notifications: if you turn them on, the address your browser gives for notifications, and when and to which words you said yes.
- The waiting list: if you leave your email address, the address, your town, and the city and province the network reports. We never use your phone’s GPS.
- Businesses: for a business on Lekke Deals, its name, contact numbers, location, deals and photos, and the email address of whoever runs it. Photos are shrunk on the phone, which removes embedded details such as location.
- Payments: businesses pay through Paystack. We never see a card number; we keep the card type, the expiry date and a token from Paystack that lets the monthly payment repeat.
- On your phone: your language, your answers and what you’ve already seen, in your browser’s storage. We use no advertising or tracking cookies.
What businesses see
A business sees how many people saw, kept and skipped its deals, and how many tapped its contact details. It sees age and gender only as a split between two groups, and only when each group holds enough people. It never sees who you are.
Under 18
If you tell us you’re under 18, you can look at the deals, but we store nothing about you. Only your phone remembers that you said so.
Who else handles it
A few service providers help us run Lekke Deals. They handle information only on our instructions:
- Clerk: sign-in and account security.
- Convex: the database.
- Cloudflare: the website, photos, cookie-free visit counts, and Turnstile, which tells people from automated traffic.
- Google: signing in with Google, if you choose it.
- Paystack: payments from businesses.
- Resend: the emails we send.
- Your browser’s push service (Google, Apple or Mozilla): the notifications you’ve turned on.
Some of them store information outside South Africa. We don’t sell personal information.
Your rights
Under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) you may ask what information we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, or object to how we use it. Write to hallo@lekkedeals.co.za. You may also complain to the Information Regulator: inforegulator.org.za.
Changes
When this notice changes, the date at the top changes. If a change affects how we use your information, we’ll tell you. See also the terms.
